Google is always trying to improve user experience on their search engine, so it’s exciting to hear that Google is testing new filter buttons for product listing ads. These ads can be filtered by location availability, top rated, and more in the search results. This new test provides a better opportunity for ad exposure beyond product listing ad box and mobile carousel. The filter buttons show up on search results when superlatives like “top” or “best” or other similar adjectives aren’t used in the query. Once a user clicks on a filter button, the user is led to the Shopping page which features products that meet the filter requirements. This new feature will help advertisers gain more opportunity to be found since the buttons can potentially draw more visitors to Google Shopping pages.
Also, Google now has a special “In Store” filter for Local Inventory Ads. With the In Store filter, consumers can quickly see stores nearby that sell the product you were looking for. Merkle RKG reported that they observed an increase in online purchases with in-store pickup selected on mobile for clients that are running Local Inventory Ads. This confirms that users are using these filter buttons and products that have high ratings will most likely see an increase in traffic due to the “Top Rated” filter button. Below is an example of what these filters will look like on Google’s search results page.
