The New Facebook Business Page | SEO Boston MA

Similar to Facebook’s Timeline for Personal pages, Facebook has just launched A new look for their Business Pages. Currently you are able to preview how the new page will look and become familiar with the new look. The pages will officially transition on March 30, 2012. so it is best to become familiar and ideally transition your page before the end of March. While there are many changes with the new layout here are some highlights and new features that are available.

Cover Photo

This is a large photo  (850 x 315 pixels)  that displays at the top of your page. You are able to use public photos, upload a photo, or use you’re a photo from your current albums.  If necessary, Facebook can help you to crop the photo so it appears proportional. This is a great place to place an engaging picture or to clearly display your best work. Facebook does have some guideline on what is allowed on a cover photo:

Cover images may not contain:

  • Price or purchase information,      such as “40% off” or “Download it at our website”
  • Contact information, such as web      address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your      Page’s About section
  • References to user interface      elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site      features
  • Calls to action, such as “Get it      now” or “Tell your friends”

Profile Photo

In the left corner overlapping your cover photo is your profile photo.  This picture is a 180 pixel square which is a great spot to add a logo or brand to enhance your cover photo. I recommend making your profile photo different from your cover photo to make the page more visually appealing

Custom Tabs

Custom Tabs including landing pages and apps display just below your cover photo. The photos tab always appears first, but you can customize which apps or landing page you would like displayed after the photo tab.

Unfortunately with the new timeline layout you are not able to set a custom landing page when fans visit your page. However there is one plus to the custom tabs (and former landing pages). Previously tabs were only able to be 540 pixels. In the new layout you are able to make the tabs up to 779 pixels wide which creates significantly more space for custom pages and additional content

Responding to Message Privately

Page Administrators will now be able to message users privately. This is very useful for communicating with clients and prospects when the conversation should be private rather than being posted in a feed on your wall.
