Bing Continues to Grow It’s Market Share

Google has had a firm grip on the search engine market share pretty much since search engine market share has existed. Month in and month out Google has had roughly 65% of the market share and all of the other bottom dwellers have been fighting for position. However, thing are beginning to shape up a little differently in the search engine market. Bing has begun to separate themselves from the pack and Yahoo is in a steady nose dive.

For the third month running, Bing has seen their market share increase and begin to pull away from Yahoo. In August 2011, Bing had a market share of 14.7%. In July 2012 it had already risen to 15.7% and during this past month of August 2012, Bing jumped again to 15.9%. In 1 full year, Bing has seen their market share increase 1.2%. Base on how many searches are performed on a monthly basis, a 1.2% increase is a huge jump for Bing.

Yahoo on the other hand has seen its numbers dwindle over the past 12 months as a result of Bing’s increases. In August of 2011, Yahoo had a market share of 16.3%. In July of 2012 it had fallen to 13% and continued to plummet to 12.8% in August 2012. Here is a breakdown of the numbers:

  • Google: 66.4 percent (66.8 percent in July)
  • Bing: 15.9 percent (15.7 percent in July)
  • Yahoo: 12.8 percent (13.0 percent in July)
  • Ask: 3.2 percent (3.1 percent in July)
  • AOL: 1.7 percent (1.5 percent in July)
