Why Your Follower’s Actually Matter

Let’s face it, everyone feels great when they receive a new follower on their Instagram, Twitter or Facebook page; but the depth of interactions is actually way more important than the number next to “followers”. Having an abundance of followers means nothing unless they are engaged followers (and no we don’t mean the ones with a shiny rock on their finger). You could have 1,000,000 followers, but it doesn’t mean anything if they don’t care about what you have to say.

Social media is a great way to increase SEO and brand recognition. However, we’ve slowly been taking the social out of SOCIAL media. Many people are posting on their pages just to get a post out there, even if it has no value to a reader what-so-ever. You can post all you want, but it doesn’t help your brand if no one’s reading it. You want to attract people who are interested in what you have to say and offer, and as a company, you should make sure you know exactly what these followers are looking for. Write helpful and informative posts, such as tips that have to do with your company, or get a conversation started with a post that asks a question relevant to your brand.

Adding a plethora of followers just to get your numbers up is a waste of valuable time. If you get 50 random people to follow your account, that’s all they are, random people, who probably don’t care about what you’re posting, which means they aren’t likely to become possible prospects. This entails that there is no business value having those random people follow your account. If a follower isn’t going to like your posts, read your content, or click through your website, than there’s no point in having them as a follower in the first place. Your followers are the ones who get the word out about your company and brand, so you want posts that get them to interact with your content and your page.
