Google Seach Console
Add & Verify Your Website
The first thing you will need to do is not only add but also to verify your website or websites. This proves to Google that you are the website owner or an authorized user on the website. Google wants you to prove this because in Google Search Console you will insight into a lot of details about the website and how it’s performing.
How to add Your Website
To add your website, it’s a very simple process. First, you will sign into your Google Search Console account, then you will “add property,” and you place your URL “http://www.___.com” and also you will want to add “http://___.com” in case that is how Google is reading your website. If your website is secure you will want to do the same two steps with both of your https:// website.
The next step you will want to do is to verify your website. There are a few different ways you can do this depending on what you have access to, what other Google tools you have on your website, and how familiar you are with your website.
The four main ways to verify your website are:
- Add an HTML tag which is essentially a meta tag, this is best placed in a header on your website which is signaled as: <Head>
- HTML file upload, to verify this way you will download the file, then you will need to copy and paste it as it is onto the website’s back end, if you change it then Google will not be able to read the code.
- Domain name provider. When you verify this way you will go to the company where you purchased your domain
- Google Tag Manager. If you have been using this tool that Google provides, you can verify with this tool as well.
Once your website is added and verified then Google will be able to see how your website is being indexed, optimize your visibility, see if there are any errors, submit a sitemap, get insight into the keywords you are ranking for, and more.
