If you manage multiple websites that are designed for a specific country or a specific language, you’ll want to make sure that the search results shows up for the relevant country or language. To make sure your pages reach the correct audience, you can use International Targeting in webmasters tools. International targeting in Google Webmasters tools gives you the ability to target your search audience by location and by language.
You can also use this tool if you are getting a lot of unwanted traffic from other countries. For example, if you are a local contractor in Boston, there would be little reason to have people from Brazil or India visiting your site. It may throw off your bounce rate.
To activate Country Targeting in webmasters tools, simply log into your Google Webmaster Tools account. In the Sidebar, under “Search Traffic”, click on “International Targeting.” It should look like the screenshot below:
Next, click on the “Country” tab and here, you can select the country or countries that you want to target. It is important to note that this tool will not totally eliminate all your search results in a particular country, but it will help reduce unwanted traffic from other countries.
