Google Bard is an experimental AI chatbot powered by a language model. Bard is Google’s response to the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The biggest difference between Google Bard and ChatGPT is that Bard will be able to pull responses directly from the internet, while ChatGPT pulls information it learned from training data, and has a knowledge cutoff in September 2021. Google Bard will be able to do everything that ChatGPT can currently do, including code, write, and answer math problems. Google says that in the near future, Bard will have multiple additional features, including AI image generation and integration with third-party web services.
When Was Google Bard Released?
Google Bard was originally announced on February 8th, 2023, at Google’s Live from Paris event. Google began opening access to Bard in March 2023, letting a limited number of users join a waitlist to use the AI chatbot. On May 10th, 2023, Google removed the waitlist, and the AI is now available in 180 countries and territories. You can access Bard now via the Google AI website or through the Google Assistant. Google itself is still calling Bard an “early experiment”, and they’re looking for feedback from their users!
How Will Google Bard Shape The Future Of Search Engines?
While its exact impact on the future of search is unclear, Google Bard could completely alter the way that people use search engines. The first way that Bard may change the future of search is that it could make “looking something up” more conversational: instead of Googling keywords & phrases, users could ask Bard a question, then ask it to elaborate on its response. Another way that Google Bard could change the future of search is that it will eventually be able to tailor search results according to the user’s personal interests and preferences. While only time will truly tell, Google Bard has the potential to make search engines more conversational, personalized, and engaging!
