What Is Bing Webmaster Tools?

The first step to understanding Bing Webmaster Tools is to understand what Bing is: the second most used search engine, after Google of course. While many SEO strategies are directed toward optimizing your website’s success on Google, it’s also important to optimize for Bing. The simplest way to explain Bing Webmaster is by comparing it to Google’s version of the same tool – Google Search Console. If you’re comfortable with using Google Search Console, you should have no problem transferring the same strategies and ideas to use on Bing Webmaster Tools. However, if you’re not familiar with Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools, you can use this guide to help you navigate the Bing tool!

What Is Bing Webmaster Used For?

Bing Webmaster’s primary function is to allow website owners to add and manage their website’s presence within the Bing index. This means that by using Bing Webmaster, you can be sure that your site is being crawled by Bing, therefore making it available on Bing’s search engine results pages. Once your Bing Webmaster account is set up and linked to your website, you can use the Webmaster Tools to do many things that will help optimize your site for Bing’s search engine. Some of these SEO tools include tracking search performance on Bing, the ability to do keyword research, upload sitemaps, control crawling, URL inspections, and more. Although Bing isn’t used by nearly as many users as Google, utilizing Bing Webmaster is still an important strategy for anyone looking to improve their website’s search engine optimization.

How Do I Set Up a Bing Webmaster Account?

Like with Google Search Console, there are multiple ways to set up and link your website to your Bing Webmaster account. The first step, of course, is to create an account on Bing Webmaster or sign-in just like you would on any other website. Next is the part that can be slightly tricky: linking your Bing Webmaster account to your website. For this step, there are several options to choose from.

  • The easiest way to link your website to Bing Webmaster is to import your setting from Google Search Console if you already have a GSC account set up. If not, it should only take a few minutes to have your Bing Webmaster Tools up and running.
  • The first way to verify your website on Bing Webmaster is to download the XML file that’s provided by Bing Webmaster and add it to the “public_html” folder on the backend of your website, then go back to the Bing Webmaster website and click verify.
  • The next option to verify your site is to use an HTML Meta Tag. For this, you should copy the meta tag provided by Bing, then paste it into the <head> section of your site’s HTML. Once this is done, simply go back to the Bing Webmaster site and click verify, then you should be good to go.
  • One final option for verifying your website on Bing Webmaster is to copy the CNAME record provided by Bing and paste it into your site’s DNS settings using your domain host.

Remember, you only need to do one of these steps to verify your site on Bing Webmaster, so it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes if you know your way around your website.
