What Does Amazon’s Holiday Numbers Say About My E-Commerce Website?

The Facts

After the 2016 holidays came to an end, e-commerce giant Amazon claimed that it was its “best-ever season.” To further touch on that subject, a retail analytics company has further dove into this “best-ever season” to get a glimpse of how well Amazon did compared to other retail stores. The company, Slice Intelligence, ran a test pool of 1.3 million online shoppers to ask where they shopped for gifts this holiday season.

Slice found out that Amazon had 38 percent of all online revenue made within the United States during the just-completed holidays. Now comparing it to Amazon’s own numbers of last year, 37.9 percent in 2015, is nothing to take note. However, when comparing Amazon to Best Buy, who placed 2nd on that list of destination for holiday shoppers, the percentage differential is enormous.  Best Buy only had a 3.9 percent of all online revenue earned during the holiday season. Meaning that Amazon earned ten times more than Best Buy did in the holiday season.

It saves them from waiting in line at a store, beating holiday traffic and gives users a warm feeling when packages arrived in the mail addressed to their name.
