Twitter announced at the NewsFront event on Monday, May 1st that they will be partnering with various media outlets to produce live content on the social media platform. According to the company’s latest quarterly earnings report, video has become Twitter’s “largest revenue-generating ad format.”
Twitter’s new live programming lineup is split into three categories: news, entertainment, and sports.
News: Twitter will host 24/7 live streaming news coverage with new outlets such as 24/7 news coverage with Bloomberg, and other news programs such as BuzzFeed, Cheddar, and The Verge.
Entertainment: In the pop culture world, Twitter partnered with Live Nation to exclusively live stream videos of concerts, and partnered with IMG Fashion for exclusive runway shows as well as the behind-the-scenes coverage of Fashion Week Content.
Sports: Twitter will also be hosting new weekly programs for with game highlights from the MLB, collegiate sport events, and daily live studio program. Twitter also has a weekly streaming WMBA program in the works for later this month. Star athletes will also have an opportunity to reach fans directly on exclusive live show, #Verified.
This new update gives brands an opportunity to reach engaged audiences by using video content on a larger scale. Marketers and advertisers can purchase ads through Twitter’s Amplify program, and Twitter will be sharing the ad revenue with the partnering media companies.
