Google has recently reminded webmasters that linking in a widget can be against webmaster guidelines. Although widgets can enhance user experience, some widgets contain links that the webmaster did not place. Google announced, “because these links are not naturally placed, they’re considered a violation of Google Webmaster Guidelines.”
Links from your widgets must be removed or at least add the rel=”nofollow” code to the links. If you get a manual action from the Google spam team, make sure to remove the links or include the code above. Take a look below at an example of a widget link that goes against Google guidelines.
