On-Page SEO Checklist

On-page SEO is the practice of updating web pages in order to optimize for search engines. Creating a successful on-page SEO strategy is one of the best ways to increase the volume of organic traffic to your website. Similar to most digital marketing strategies, on-page SEO is constantly changing. Read our checklist for the most up-to-date information on effectively optimizing your web pages to rank higher on SERPs.

Where to Include Keywords

Once you have conducted keyword research and compiled a list of relevant words and phrases that you want to be found for, several items should be updated. The URL of each page should include the main keywords to help search engines understand the content. Next, you should update H-tags to include several of your keywords. The H1 tag, or main heading, should consist of your most important keyword. For H2s, H3s, and so on, you should include secondary keywords and long-tail phrases. Keywords should also be sprinkled throughout the page’s body content, but make sure readability is tailored to the user.

Image Optimization

Images are an essential part of creating a webpage with a good user experience that is visually appealing. However, search engines are not able to understand an image as a user does. Optimizing each image to include alt text solves this problem. Alt-text is a simple description of an image used to explain the image to the search engines.

Include Internal Links

Every page should include at least two internal links to other pages on your website. This is beneficial for both the user and the search engines. Links allow the user to navigate your website with ease and prompts them to explore more pages on your site. Links also make it easier for search engines to continue to crawl the entire website. When adding links throughout the content, choose anchor text that includes keywords.

Quality Content

Writing relevant content with valuable information is the most crucial element of on-page SEO. Search engines aim to provide users with the most relevant content that will answer their search queries. The more useful content you provide, the higher you will rank on SERPs. Make sure to avoid thin content, duplicate content, keyword stuffing, and plagiarized content.
