Although Twitter’s user growth was minimal at best according to 2015 data — with only 307 million monthly active users, a drop in the bucket compared to Facebook — the social media platform is still useful for PR gurus to increase brand awareness. When used incorrectly, however, engagement rates can be quite low and audience reach is abysmal.

As long as businesses understand that the platform is a wonderful tool for customer service, direct outreach and content distribution, one should be able to have a successful time at differentiating their brand this year. Here are a few tips to consider to stand out from the competition.

  1. Respond Promptly to Calls for Assistance. Twitter is well-known for being the social network that people turn to when they are having an issue with a product or service, so make sure you are constantly monitoring who is reaching out to your for help. Respond to any issues or inquiries in a timely fashion and you will notice your company’s reputation for customer service improving year over year.
  2. Reuse and Recycle Your Tweets. Repetitive information can often be annoying, but there’s a reason this strategy hasn’t died off with the dinosaurs just yet. Repeating your tweets is a great way to ensure that all of your followers are being reached. Try re-posting a tweet three times a day (morning, lunch time, and post-dinner time) in order to make sure your audience sees that you are promoting a product or service. Because Twitter is a live feed and constantly changing, reusing tweets will keep your news at the top of the feed.
  3. Implement Hashtags Properly. We often see hashtags used on Facebook and especially Instagram, but those who have fully reaped the benefits of Twitter use their hashtags judiciously. Keep in mind that hashtags are a means to enter into a community discussion. Try using some of the trending hashtags in your next Tweet and try to tie it into a product or service you provide.

One of the best ways to get the most out of the social media platform in 2016 is to embrace whatever changes are happening in the near future. Rumor has it, there could be a few major overhauls coming to Twitter in order to grow it’s own user base and in return, you will be able to grow yours!
