As more internet users are looking to reduce their imprint on the internet, DuckDuckGo’s privacy search engine capabilities has become increasingly popular over the years. Recent numbers show that the private search engine had its biggest day January 10th with 14 million searches in one day. Ever since its inception in 2010, the private search engine has been popular among many online users. The search engine allows users to make searches knowing that the engine will not track their queries.
Since 2010, DuckDuckGo surpassed the 10 billion search mark which is impressive in it of itself as they are competing with search engine giants such as Google, Bing & Yahoo. Out of the 10 billion total searches, four billion of them came in 2016 alone, which urges the question; will DuckDuckGo be the new go to search engine in the future?
A recent study shows that 40 percent of people feel that search engines should not retain activity of a user when they are online. With DuckDuckGo’s private searching capabilities, it could be a possibility that people could switch to this search engine in the future.
