Instagram recently released it’s newest feature, Instagram TV (IGTV), which will compete head-on with YouTube. This new app will allow users to create and upload long-form (up to one hour), vertical videos that can be watched in-app or within the Instagram App. The app is simple to use, is similar to a regular TV in the sense that the videos will start playing once you open the app, and there will be channels that the users create to help find the content you want to watch, faster. For those of you who are long-time lovers of Instagram Stories, don’t worry – those aren’t going away!
How to Use IGTV
Users are able to create a channel and upload videos straight through the Instagram app or through the standalone IGTV app. For larger accounts, the video length is up to one hour and smaller accounts can upload a video up to ten minutes long. The fun thing about the app? You can record a video right then and there or create a video, make edits like you would if you were uploading to YouTube, and then upload to IGTV!
IGTV is super easy to use, even if you’re not uploading videos. Once you open the app, videos will start playing right away just like a normal television. You can also swipe up once you’re in the app to browse other content – there’s a search bar and several categories below to find just what you need including “For You, “Following,” “Popular,” and “Continue Watching.”
Within the Instagram app, you will also receive notifications when someone you follow adds a new video to your channel so you can keep up with their content! All videos can be liked, commented on, and shared via direct message with those you follow.
