How to Get More Views on YouTube

You don’t need fancy studio lighting and a camera crew to create a quality video for YouTube.  Most YouTubers make content from their smartphones!  All you need are ideas for content and intention for promotion.

If you’re looking to start a YouTube channel for your social media strategy, it can get discouraging after finding your brand’s content isn’t receiving the same viewership as a video of your dog lounging around on a hot summer day.

So how do you generate more views on YouTube and get more users to view your content?  Here are five ways on how to do just that.

1. Provide Engaging Content

The type of content you’re producing is one of the most important factors in getting more views to each video.

Your content should provide overall value to the viewer: either entertains or informs the viewer.  When users find your content valuable, they’ll be encouraged to watch other videos on your channel, as well as share your content on other social media platforms.

Quality content with more views results in better behavior analytics, with YouTube rewarding your content with higher organic search positioning.

2. Get Views from YouTube’s Organic Search Results

Similar to Google’s search results algorithms, optimizing your channel and individual videos will result in higher rankings for your video content, which helps increase clicks to your video.  Some ways you can increase your viewership organically includes:

  • Using descriptive titles for your video content
  • Including target keywords and tags to optimize the video content for search queries
  • Having keyword rich copy in the description box
  • Optimizing your thumbnail image by using quality images, engaging fonts, and close-ups featured in the video

3. Use Autoplay and Create Playlists

If you have relevant videos, autoplay is an easy way to suggest other content you want viewers to watch.  Creating a playlist for subscribers to watch automatically can help increase your viewership without viewers having to navigate off the playlist.

4. Create End Screens

Here’s your chance to plug yourself!  Increase engagement and clicks to other videos featured on your channel by providing users with other information about your channel including relevant videos, latest videos, playlists and a link to your website.

You can easily add an “End Screen” feature to your video by going to “End Screens & Annotations” and add in any feature you want to promote on your channel.

5. Promote Off YouTube

Another tactic in increasing viewership is by promoting your videos on other social media platforms.  Posting a video to YouTube and not cross-promoting your video is a sure way to not get the views you want.  Promote your video links on Facebook and Twitter, create teaser clips to Instagram, and embed links on your website to encourage subscribers and viewers to visit your channel.
