How to Get in the Twitter Game

We are in the social media era and if your brand still hasn’t created a twitter account, you are losing a significant amount of audience. Social media channels have become essential in both the professional and personal world. It is reported and proved that traditional news outlets (newspaper, magazine, and television) are losing their popularity to social media. Nowadays, people get their news from checking Facebook or Twitter feeds more than watching it on TV. For companies and businesses, social media is an extremely effective and efficient channel to communicate with their audience. Among all the popular social networks, Twitter is one of my favorites for couple reasons:

First, Twitter is extremely minimal and concise. Tweets are limited to 280 characters, so you don’t have to spend more than a few seconds to read the messages.

Second, Twitter works based on the hashtag system. Therefore, you can cater your tweet to your desired audience.

Finally, Twitter is more casual than Facebook. This allows you to be more personal with your followers.

With that saying, let’s see how to effectively launch your business Twitter account!

Step 1: Account Setup

Obviously, the first thing you need to do is create a new Twitter account. Remember to input all the basic required information about your business. Cater the description to your targeted audience. This will help your tweets and account show up better and more frequently on searches.

If you are not familiar with using Twitter, spend a bit of time reading other business or competitors tweets. Learn what kind of message they deliver on this platform. Learn how to use a hashtag and play around with some that are directly related to your industry. Once you are ready to tweet, share various types of content. This will keep your Twitter diverse and interesting.

Step 2: Follow the Industry

Around 6,000 tweets are posted every second. After your company Twitter is established, you should build your network and update new content on a daily basis. This will make sure that your followers are exposed to the content you share.

Look up and follow influential people and thought leaders in your industry. Keep in mind that it’s best to start following people after you already have some contents on your Twitter. That will help people decide whether they should follow you back.

Similarly, if somebody follows you, you should consider following them back. It’s a gesture of goodwill, and you might benefit from their content. It’s a win-win situation.

Find the conversations going on Twitter and participate in them. Do this as often as you can!

Step 3: Consistency is the Key

Twitter is not a temporary game. You need to develop your brand on Twitter, and it doesn’t happen after a week or two being active. Be consistent with posting content, reaching out to potential leads and connecting with industry leaders. Eventually, you will find Twitter an effective tool to communicate with your company network!
