How to Get Google to Index Your Site Quickly

There are steps that you can take to ensure that Google will index your site quickly and keep you ahead of your competitors.  If there is one thing in the world of SEO that every SEO professional wants to see, it is the ability for Google to crawl and index their site quickly.  Indexing is just one step in a serious of steps that are required for an effective SEO strategy.  These steps include the following, and can be boiled down into three steps total for the process:

Although it can be summarized into these three steps does not necessarily mean these are the only steps that Google uses.  The actual process is much more complicated so, lets get into it.

What Is Crawling, Indexing, and Ranking?

Quite simply, they are the steps in Google’s process for discovering websites across the World Wide Web and showing them in a higher position in their search results.  Every page that is discovered by Google goes through the same process, which includes crawling, indexing, and ranking.  First, Google crawls your page to see if it is worth including in its index.  Assuming that your page passes the first evaluations, this is the step in which Google assigns your web page into its own categorized database index of all the pages available that it has crawled thus far.  Ranking is the last step.  This is where Google will show the results of your query, this preforms this process in milliseconds.  Finally, the web browser conducts a rendering process so it can display your site properly, enabling it to actually be crawled and indexed.

So, metaphorically speaking: Crawling is gearing up for the challenge, indexing is preforming the challenge, and finally, ranking is the reward from the challenge.  While these steps seem simple, Google algorithms are anything but.

The Page Has to Be Valuable & Unique

If you are noticing that you are having problems getting your pages indexed, you will want to make your pages as unique & valuable as possible.  But, make no mistake what you may consider valuable may not be what Google considers valuable.  This is due to Google’s main goal of bringing the users value in the least amount of clicks possible.  Reviewing the page using fresh eyes is a great way to catch any issues with content that you may not find on your own.  Another great way to assist your low preforming pages is to run an analysis on them!

Have a Regular Plan to Update & Re-Optimize Content

Google search results change constantly and that means that the websites do as well.  Most websites in the top 10 results on Google are always updating their content and making changes to their pages.  It is important to track these changes and spot-check the search results that are changing, so you know what to change the next time around.  Having regular reviews whether it is monthly or even quarterly is a good way to staying updated and making sure that your content continues to outperform the competition.  No SEO plan is ever a realistic “set and forget it” proposition.  You have to be prepared to stay committed to regular content publishing along with regular updates to older content.

Removing Low Quality Pages

Over time you might find that your pages do not preform as expected, and they do not have the metrics that you were hoping for.  In some cases, pages are also fillers and do not enhance the blog in terms of contributing to the overall topic.  These low-quality pages are not always fully-optimized.  They are not offering the best SEO practices, and they usually do not have ideal optimizations in place.  ideally you want to have six elements of every page optimized at all times:

  • Page Title
  • Meta Description
  • Internal Links
  • Page Headings
  • Images
  • Schema Markup

But, just because a page is not fully optimized does not mean that it is low quality.  Finding pages that are not preforming well in terms of any metrics and prioritizing which pages to remove based on relevance and whether they contribute to the topic and your overall authority is a good practice.
