How to Change My Permalinks on WordPress?

What is a Permalink?

A permalink is a static URL that points to a specific page away from your homepage i.e blog, forum, etc. If you don’t use a permalink, every link will be forwarded to the main blog page versus the individual post.

What does a Permalink look like?

There are generally three types of Permalinks:

  • Default:

o   https://www.examplesite.com/?p=W

  • Mod_rewrite:

o   https://www.examplesite.com/2014/post-name/

or

o   https://www.examplesite.com/2014/12/25/post-name

  • PATHINFO:

o   https://www.examplesite.com/index.php/yyyy/mm/dd/post-name/

Changing Permalink structure:

To change your Permalink structure go to Settings > Permalinks. From there you have two options you can either choose one of the “Common Structures” or you can create a “Custom Structure”.
