Instagram is a mobile app where users share photos with unique captions and filters. It is a great platform to provide your audience with visual content and a creative way to reach a consumer base. Owned by Facebook, it has over 100 million monthly active users and is still growing.
To start off, you’ll want to create an Instagram account through your business Facebook page or email address. Then you’ll want to build your brand through your page by choosing a username, and adding a profile photo, bio, and your website’s URL. When building your page, be sure to use your business logo as your profile picture and a username that’s similar, if not the same, as your other media platforms. This will help users identify who you are and be able to find you quickly when searching. Once you get your Instagram up and running, there are a few key tips to keep in mind when posting.
Consistency: When users scan a company’s or business’s Instagram page, they should be able to quickly identify the brand’s message from the group of photos. By keeping the brand’s message consistent, it will help users learn who you are as a company and what you stand for.
Hashtags: Hashtags are no longer used as just the “pound key” on a phone anymore. They make it easier for users to search for and find specific content across many social media platforms. When using hashtags, make sure they are relevant to your company or the photo. You can hashtag your location (#Boston), products (#socialmediamanagement), or industry (#webmarketing).
Well Crafted: Just like painting and drawing, some consider Instagram an art. Bold, uncluttered, simple photos seem to grab the most attention on Instagram. Starbucks has mastered this technique (see photos below).

Engage Your Community: Encourage readers to post their own photos regarding your business. By engaging your readers and asking them to post and tag your company or use a certain hashtag, you can respond to them and begin to create a community. You may even be able to re-post their photos and give them a shout-out for being such a loyal customer.
