Home for the QR code in 2012 | SEO Boston MA

QR codes were originally developed by the Toyota subsidiary Denso Wave in 1994. They were used to help track cars through the line of production.  Since then they have been used on everything from medicine to business cards and even websites. So where does the QR code belong? In recent years the QR has been used to help provide information to retail customers. They appear on billboards, magazines and even in store products. Smart phones are becoming more widely used to access QR codes. There are many third party QR reader applications but popular on android phones is the application Google Goggles. When used to read QR codes, smart phone users can be directed to websites, receive text messages, add a vCard contact to their device or compose an email.

All of the functions that a QR codes provides helps to connect with your customers and branding your product. Scan your store’s QR and bring your customer directly to your online store. Instead of having a lengthy URL on your business card, add a QR code and land that potential customer directly on your website when they use their smart phone. In 2011 there was a dramatic increase in the number of people using QR codes.

During the month of June 2011, according to one study, 14 million mobile users scanned a QR code or a barcode. Some 58% of those users scanned a QR or bar code from their home, while 39% scanned from retail stores; 53% of the 14 million users were men between the ages of 18 and 34.[20]. QR codes are also being tested for “virtual store” formats, particularly in South Korea [21]and Argentina[22].

Use a QR code to help promote your website, blog, social media or online store. There are many places on the internet that you can use to build a QR code. One example of a site that allows you to generate QR codes is QRstuff.com. Here you can create codes that connect to: websites, youtube, google maps locations, twitter, facebook, linkedin, foursquare, iTunes, Plaintext, Telephone numbers, emails and events for your calendar. The use of these types of QR codes will greatly increase your business’ overall online exposure.  Online exposure will lead to more potential clients and sales for your business.
