Google’s Newest Feature: Google My Business Messaging

Did you know you can start messaging your customers through Google My Business? It has been a feature that was in beta since last year and it is now officially been rolled out to all United States businesses.
Google released the beta feature just one day after Bing announced a similar feature. Business owners using Google My Business can communicate with customers via standard text messaging or Google Allo. In contrast, Bing users can message via SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and more.

A Powerful Feature, If Used Right

Google My Business messaging could be a powerful feature if you have the time to use it. It is important to consider how much time you can realistically spend on it before turning it on. This feature is especially beneficial for local businesses that are often spending time providing services to customers. Plumbers, contractors, roofers are some of the best examples that could use this feature well.
If you would like someone else to manage the responsibility, they need to be assigned as an owner or manager of the Google My Business listing. Otherwise, they will not have the option to send or receive messages.

Sending/Receiving Messages and Insights

Once you start receiving messages, you will get statistics and insights about your messaging activity like the number of clicks to message, the number of conversations, and the number of total messages.
Beware that customers can send you messages outside of business hours. So, think twice before you turn this messaging feature on.
