Google Says Redirects are Fine; Don’t Need to Change Backlinks to HTTPS

Many webmasters and site owners switched from HTTP to HTTPS following the HTTPS algorithm, which gives HTTPS sites a small boost in rank. This led many webmasters to question whether they need their backlinks to include the “S” in the URL. Gary Illyes of Google said that redirects are fine for this problem:

“if your redirects are properly implemented, the benefit from doing that is so minimal that IMO it’s not worth it.”

You are better off just redirecting HTTP to HTTPS. There would be little benefit for the amount of time it would take to change all of your links to the HTTPS version.
