Google Rolls Out Additional Website Snippets, Website Verification UX Beta

Google has announced a rollout of new features including new mobile website snippets intended to help users verify the credibility of online content, which may impact search engine ranking and search engine interactions. The Keyword blog explained that new user features specifically include a new menu to explore the source of search results will allow users to learn more about websites and how they are curating information.

When available, you’ll see a description of the website from Wikipedia, which provides free, reliable information about tens of millions of sites on the web. Based on Wikipedia’s open editing model, which relies on thousands of global volunteers to add content, these descriptions will provide the most up-to-date verified and sourced information available on Wikipedia about the site. If it’s a site you haven’t heard of before, that additional information can give you context or peace of mind, especially if you’re looking for something important, like health or financial information.

The new feature also allows a user to check privacy settings, SSL encryption of sites before landing, and other search features for users. This platform is rolled out today on U.S servers and will soon be rolled out in other countries.

Will new website featured snippets impact my search results?

It is far too early to say that the new website feature on Google Search directly impacts search results for users. However, the interactivity of a user with your website could impact their likelihood to interact with your site if it is not optimized with updated web content and search-friendly optimization features.

Critical updates and needs will include adding the proper SSL certificate and security measures to a website, making sure that all conversions are secured, and that there is no duplicate or spam content on your website. Security factors also impact search engine and are a key part of user efficacy on search engines: if a user can’t trust that their browser session is secure on your site then they won’t make a purchase or order online.

Keyword updates, routine content updates, and mobile-friendly website optimization are critical ranking factors that also seem to play a role into Google’s new website inspector tool. Preparing your website with these features is the best way to provide helpful resources to consumers within all search views.
