This morning at the AMP Conference, Google announced their latest addition to the AMP project, AMP Story. Google describes this new exciting feature as a “mobile-focused format for delivering news and information as visually rich, tap-through stories.”
The idea is no different to what we are already used to seeing the likes of Instagram and Snapchat stories. However, this new format will allow publishers to build an image, video, and animation with stories for mobile that you can quickly navigate through. Google’s product manager for the AMP project Rudy Galfi says “It swings the doors open to create visually interesting stories.”
Google has already worked with publishers to test out its early development of the AMP stories format which includes CNN, Conde Nast, Hearst, Mashable, Meredith, Mic, Vox Media, and The Washington Post. All of which have brought together their reporters and design team to creatively use this format and experiment with novel ways to tell immersive stories for a diverse set of content categories.
We are still unsure how Google intends to use this platform for other AMP stories and how they will rank but one thing is for sure: AMP stories will be a lot more engaging from now on. For more information about the latest news, please feel free to check out our blog!
