Google Assistant Coming to More Home Appliances

Google has announced that Google Assistant is on its way to some new home appliances and smart speakers. This announcement demonstrates how Google continues to compete with both Amazon’s Alexa and Microsoft’s Cortana for hardware and software integration amongst third parties. Some of the speakers joining the Google Assistant line up are the Zolo Mojo by Anker and the GA10 by Panasonic. With Google Assistant available to these devices, they will be able to deliver the capabilities of Google Home to several countries including the United States, Canada, Germany, France, and Australia.

While the integration with speakers is quite fascinating, the fact that Google Assistant is also being integrated with home appliances is even more so. With help from Google Assistant, home owners will be able to control appliances such as dishwashers, dryers, vacuums, and more! However, these features are only available to participating appliances. Hopefully in the future every appliance will be operable this way! According to Google, there are more than 70 home appliance manufacturers that are currently compatible with Google Assistant, with more brands coming soon.

Not only does this mean that a greater number of major appliance companies will feel the pressure to integrate virtual assistants into their products, but it also brings about the beginning tastes of a true smart home. Not to mention that Google Assistant and Walmart just recently joined forces, which can only mean more home integration is on the way. Long have we wished for more automated home features, and now they are here! Not all at once, of course, but slowly and surely we’re moving our way into the future we’ve been imagining for quite some time.
