There are a number of great blogging platforms out there for those who are looking to be heard across the Internet, but when it comes to customization, integration and all-around user friendliness, WordPress is a clear winner.
So if you’re like the thousands of others who are looking for a better blogging experience that Tumblr just can’t deliver, it’s time to learn how to make the switch.
There’s only good news with this switch: You get to keep all of your previous posts and it’s a simple switch-over process.
- Sign Up. First things first be sure to sign up for an account at WordPress.com.
- Authentication. After signing up, navigation to your new blog’s Dashboard. On the left hand side of the page, click “Tools” –> “Import.” The new screen will give you a few options to choose from, Tumblr being one of those options. Be sure to click “Connect to Tumblr to begin.” Click “Allow” when you’ve been prompted to grant WordPress read and write access to your Tumblr account.
- Import Content. WordPress will next collect the list of your Tumblr blogs (this could take a few minutes depending on how many posts there are). At this point you will be able to choose which ones you want to bring over. You should receive an email once importation is complete.
- Customize New Blog. After you’re satisfied with the import process, you can start customizing your new WordPress blog with pre-made themes. If you’re feeling motivated, the platform also allows users to customize their CSS.
WordPress is a great platform to use mostly because if you’re stuck, there are plenty of forums to read through for troubleshooting. One of the most common issues users may experience when importing their Tumblr blogs to WordPress is not all images and/or videos will be transferred. You will be able to view this list in the email you get after the import process is complete.
