Amazon is, for the first time, participating in Google’s Product Listing Ads. Since 2012, when Google transformed the organic product search tool into an ad driven shopping destination Amazon has not participated, until now. Recently Amazon product listing ads have been showing what appears to be AdWords testing. This is something completely new for the world’s largest online retailer.
This was discovered by Mark Ballard at Merkle, who reported that Amazon appeared to be testing its presence in Product Listing Ads. It was also reported that the ads were more apt to appear for home good products, trending up to 25% impression share.
As of right now, it appears that Amazon is just testing out these ads but if this does become more than a test it could greatly impact other retailers. Many smaller retailer will be unable to compete with the large advertising budget of this online shopping giant.
